The National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards were developed to drive the implementation of safety and quality systems and improve the quality of healthcare in Australian health service organisations. The initial NSQHS 10 Standards have been revised and updated.  There are now 8 Standards within the 2nd edition, which were endorsed by Health Ministers in June 2017, and released in November 2017.  Assessment to the NSQHS Standards 2nd edition will commence from 1 January 2019.

This Symposium will provide a thorough overview of the new components within the NSQHS Standards (2nd edition) and reformed accreditation processes. Presentations from the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care will highlight ‘what’s changed’ and ‘what you can expect’. A panel of leaders will explore nurses' and midwives' involvement with the Clinical Governance Standard.  The afternoon will provide concurrent sessions showcasing experiences with particular standards and associated continuous improvement outcomes within healthcare.

Symposium speakers include:
• Gabrielle Williams, Parliamentary Secretary for Health
• Anna Love, Chief Mental Health Nurse DHHS Victoria
• Adj/Assoc Prof Ann Maree Keenan, Deputy CEO/CNMO Safer Care Victoria
• Deb Picone AM, CEO, Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care
