Branch Library

The Branch Library offers a unique collection of resources to members.

Our catalogue has a focus on nursing practice, education and the history of the profession, including working conditions and trends.

Recent clinical materials are also available to access in house.

Members are welcome to visit the library for study and research during normal business hours.

The full-time Librarian oversees the library's continuing development and its responsiveness to user requirements. This work is supported by the assistance of a part-time Library Technician, who is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the library's resources.

Reference materials include books, journals, online resources and audio visual materials.

Using the library

The library subscribes to the following databases:

  • Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL)

CINAHL provides access to international nursing, health sciences, consumer health and allied health journals. This database also offers access to standards of practice, book chapters, nursing dissertations, selected conference proceedings and evidence-based care sheets. Full text materials include Australian Journal of Advanced Nursing, Contemporary Nurse and Australian Nursing & Midwifery Journal plus legal cases, drug records and clinical trials.

Create a free EBSCOhost account and set up alerts to your favourite journals or to the latest research in your area of practice. Use CINAHL to access high quality, peer-reviewed articles to assist in meeting the requirements of your continuing professional development.

Access is available through the Members Menu under Helpful Links.

  • ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health (available in house).

Our library staff offer research assistance to members and guidance on database use and research skills.

Nursing and midwifery student services

The resources in the library are excellent for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. If the resource you require is not available our librarian can still assist you with your search.

Special collections include the historic 1986 50-day Victorian nurses strike and UNA the journal of the Victorian Trained Nurses Association 1903-1974.

Our library is a reference library and materials are typically used in house, and not borrowed.
