The role:

  • Under the management of the Senior Industrial Officer and/or elected officials, you will represent the industrial and employee relations interests of members in relevant forums including preparing cases for hearing before the Fair Work Commission or other applicable tribunals.
  • As a team leader, you will lead and manage a group of Organisers and also provide industrial and employee relations advice and assistance to Branch management, staff and members as required, and ensure that member issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • You will work collaboratively with Professional Officers, Mental Health Nursing Officers, Maternity Services Officer, Occupational Health & Safety Officers and other branch staff to protect and improve members’ employment conditions through the provision of high quality industrial and employee relations advocacy.
    • You are responsible directly and indirectly for negotiations dealing with important industrial and employee relations matters including Enterprise Bargaining, in conjunction with other Branch staff as relevant.
    • You will assist with the development of Branch industrial and employee relations strategy and policies, and contributes to submissions on behalf of the Branch.

Classification: Industrial Officer Year 1 $105,622 full-time per annum (plus 14.5% superannuation)

Location:  Metropolitan Melbourne

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (Victorian Branch) represents in excess of 77,000 nurses, midwives and personal care workers (the latter predominantly in the private residential aged care sector).  The core business for the ANMF (Vic Branch) is the representation of the professional and industrial interests of our members and the professions of nursing and midwifery. Additionally, the ANMF (Vic Branch) runs an Education Centre and operates a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

The Professional Officer role acts as a principal adviser to the Branch Secretary, Assistant Secretaries and staff on the professional issues affecting nurses and midwives. The role also aims to develop and progress the professional objectives of the Branch in line with the core purpose to promote, advocate and actively represent the united interests of members.

The Professional Officer will provide Branch Officials and staff with contemporary information promoting professional leadership and advice on a range of nursing and midwifery issues across the State. The Professional Officer will demonstrate accountable management of portfolio responsibilities including advice and representation in regards to member issues in professional practice. The Professional Officer will work closely with industrial teams to link the industrial and professional arms of the Branch.

Requirements:

  • You will have a post graduate level qualification in relevant field, or working towards.
  • You will be a registered Nurse and/or midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • You will have demonstrated knowledge and experience managing and contributing to the resolution of complex nursing/midwifery professional and industrial issues.
  • You will have sound knowledge of ANMF (Victorian Branch) policies and practices.
  • You will have working knowledge of quality and safety in Australian health care context, best practice outcomes in health care and environmental health and safety.
  • You will have a broad knowledge of and ability to think strategically about professional issues in nursing. A working knowledge of the Victorian public health care system including demonstrated knowledge of professional and practice standards relevant to nursing and midwifery.
  • You will have advanced verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence complex nursing matters.
  • You will have an understanding of human resource management principles and practices.
  • You will have demonstrated commitment to ANMF values and trade unionism.
  • You will be proficient with information technology and systems, including MS Office suite and experience with records management programs.
  • You hold a current Victorian Drivers Licence.
  • You are a demonstrated team player and collaborator.
  • You have demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to build productive relationships and networks.

Classification: Professional Officer Year 1 $105,622 per annum full-time, plus 14.5% superannuation.
